i just attended the kick off party for the Baja Ha Ha fleet and what a party it was. Several hundred sailors, many in costume and all exhilarated by tomorrow’s departure. The Food was great, the beer and wine flowed and the costumes were amazing. The sailors do know how to party…
One of the things of note is that many of the sailboats pick their crew up here, sometimes at the last minute with no prior connection. There were several young folks looking for crew positions last night and all had found berths by today. I talked to one boat were the entire crew was new to the skipper and visa versa– seems this has been going on for years and always or almost always works out. There are folks from all over the world on this cruise.
The HaHa fleet leaves tomorrow with a big boat parade, i hope to be able to go out and watch them depart. This will only add to my eagerness to get going south.
Last night i attended the Pacific Puddle Jump group meeting with many of the Baja HaHa sailors. This is the group that monitors those of us crossing the Pacific and has a great rally in Tahiti next summer. It was great to get to know some of my fellow passage makers.
